Peer pressure refers to the influence exerted by a peer group in encouraging a person to change his or her attitudes, values, or behavior in order to conform to group norms. (Source: Wikipedia )
There are several reasons before I choose this topic, because it's very familiar to me in giving this peer pressure to my friends during college days :) Guess many of us would have experienced the same in our day to day life.
Human nature always tend to be in a certain group (or gang, whatever). Either it's a family where we stay with parents/relatives, or social life with friends, or at work place with our colleagues. When we're alone, absolutely there's no problem. But when you put two people together, now it starts.
Every one has the ability to think, suggest, act... Now when it comes to group activity, each one will be happy in imposing their ideas on others. Just an example, it may be a friend who's forbidding you to smoke/drink liquor. This situation depends on the different environment and groups. Sometime it's okay to handle but at many times it may be irritating or doing something under "pressure".
Here's the same example.
Situation: A friend asking you to quit smoking
Solution: Oops change is very difficult especially in quitting smoking. Possible solution is you can quit smoking :) . If you're not, don't pretend like you quit when actually not. To lie is the biggest mistake for your peers. If they find out the fact, now you may need to "smoke more" to avoid from pressures. So not to lie is the first lesson.
So ultimately how we can handle other pressures like this? Only by experience. Because different people at various environment can behave differently.
( ..to be contd )
Good one da. keep it up :)
